Finding Love In The World of Dating Apps

Love in the time of dating apps

Since the Coronavirus became a global pandemic, schools, offices, and business have switched from face-to-face interactions to online. I know you are wondering what this has to do with dating, right? Lol. Well, most of our parents that got married in the 60s,70s and even 80s didn’t date, at least not in the way we now date. It was simply a man saw a woman he likes; he goes to her family and things move on from there.

In modern times, as women, we have more choices, more freedom to date and choose the person we want to spend our lives with. But the other side of it is that because life has become so fast-paced, we are working, schooling, running businesses or doing different things it is somehow more difficult to find dates. So, do we just fold our hands and say because nobody approached me on my way to work, or in school I am not going to find a partner? This is where adapting to modern times comes in. Cue in… dating apps!

Dating apps have been around for a while, but people (read women) are still squeamish about using them. Some say it makes them looks desperate, or like my friend said: “I don’t want to be too out there.” But you want to find a partner, right?

Personally, I think dating apps are amazing. They give you a wide range of people to choose from. Even the option of just being friends. I know so many married couples who met on dating apps. The story isn’t always rosy but remembers that this is 2020, the year to shoot your shots for anything you want, and that includes finding a partner.

Besides dating apps, you can also DM the person you admire on social media. The time where women fold their hands and wait for someone to come “knock on the door” or “pluck flowers” is long gone. If you want something, go get it. Who knows, that swipe might just be the love of your life.

P.S: I have been collecting information from my friends who have used dating apps for a while, so next week, we’ll talk about the etiquette of online dating. Until then, wash your hands and stay safe.
