Because You Deserve a Healthy Skin Glow

Woman with glowing skin

Depending on where you stand, your skin’s glow might either be a function of good health or just the perks of a great bronzer. *wink*

Now, while I am not making a case for one being better than the other, let me quickly remind you that there’s only so much that make up can do. If not for anything, for the fact that make up washes away, leaving you to stare at your bumps, acne and other skin issues.

Also, in the true Naija style, one ‘amebo’ sister might point out that the skin of your leg is a shade darker than your arm. Or that blackheads have taken temporary residence on your face.

Good news though: I have a few simple tips that will improve your general skin condition and far outweigh the benefits of good make up.

Choose an all natural body cream or lotion

Most beauty creams or lotions that flood the Nigeria market always have some skin lightening agent that promises an even complexion or an even skin tone. What  they  don’t add is that it almost always goes south for many. Hydroquinone is just one of so many chemicals. In order to avoid damaging your skin, get creams that are contain mostly natural products or fruit extracts like papaya, lemon that even the skin tone without nasty side effects.

Avoid prolonged use of corticosteroids

Corticosteroids like fun-bact A and epiderm are used to treat black spots, ezcema and psoriasis (dry skin) etc. However, sometimes, they have effects such as excessive lightening of the skin. If this occurs when you use it, immediately dispose of the product. Continuous use of corticosteroids have also been known to cause stretch marks causing more problems to the skin.

Eat mostly Vitamin C rich fruits

Fruits like orange and lemon from the citrus family contain large amounts of vitamin c. And they are really good for your skin. Drink a cup of lemon/lime juice every day to detox the system and orange juice to increase the level of vitamin c in the body. It is also advisable to take vitamin C supplements.

Use A good exfoliator

Sugar is a sweet item in many ways. Buy a sugar scrub or add sugar to some drops of olive/coconut oil and use to exfoliate all parts of the body to ensure that your skin has that glowing look. Exfoliating kills dead cells and it’s a major step in evening out your skin.

Apply sunscreen liberally

Step out always with sunscreen preferably one with SPF 30. Sunscreen prevents the sun from messing with your skin, think of it as an invisible armour. Also make sure you pick a brand that is less chemically concentrated and can work well with your skin.

Have a skin care regimen

Love your skin and it will love you back. Take out time to moisturise and cleanse your skin. Stick to one product to ensure it works and apply consistently to see results. Pamper your skin always to ensure it always has that healthy glow.

Finally

Remember also to stay hydrated, drink water regularly and eat a balanced diet. Give it time and be consistentYour skin is a natural foundation and one of the first things people notice about you. Take care of it and it will be radiant and soon that amebo sister will be asking you for tips.
