Would You Undergo Surgery For The Perfect Body?

Woman getting prepped for plastic surgery

With the fashion world bombarding us with images of the “perfect” hourglass body, (while conveniently failing to mention how much editing some of those images have undergone), it is kind of hard to flaunt a figure that doesn’t fit into that mould. I will be honest, I personally struggle to make peace every day with pads of fat that appear in all the wrong places. #Sigh. Why can’t I store fat in my butt? Anyway, the journey to complete self-acceptance is still very much a process.

A while back, news flooded the cyberspace about surgeries gone wrong. There were gory graphic videos and information about a dreaded “doctor” who gave you a dream body at too high a price. The news led to an interesting if not controversial conversation about plastic surgery and its risks.

My opinion on plastic surgery has always been as long as it is your body, do what agrees with you. This belief was strengthened when one of my mentors came out to say she had work done, only when she told her story, it wasn’t all fluff and rainbows.

There was intense pain post-recovery even after carrying it out in a top-notch facility. Another fact is that you have to maintain that dream body so, back to workouts after seeing the results else all the work done during surgery goes down the drain.

The whole experience I read showed it is a process not to be taken lightly. It requires enough funds, experienced medical personnel and thorough research on the procedure that is being carried out on your body. You have to truly inform yourself before taking the step and to be really sure you’re doing it primarily for you.

From the debate, however, it seemed that the main issue was about people’s desire to ‘cut corners,’ looking for whatever works instead of doing the work of eating well and exercising.

Regardless of what side you are on, I think what matters is that intentional practise of self-love. No surgery can give you confidence. That is entirely up to you.

Still, tell us what you think about body-enhancing plastic surgeries. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
