What Not To Give A Couple As A Wedding Gift

Sample wedding gift for couple

I was casually scrolling through Twitter on a fine Sunday afternoon and a certain tweet pops up. It is a newlywed lady sorting through her pile of wedding gifts. Digging deep and ready to find treasures to help start a new life with her beau. She sees this small, plastic kettle that does not look so bad. It may burn out after a few uses but hey, A for effort, right? She goes to put it away and lo and behold. A print on the other side of it. “Thanks for coming to our wedding, Oge and Daniel.”

This wedding guest had gone to a wedding, gotten a souvenir and went ahead to wrap it up and give another couple! The bride on Twitter could only laugh and wish Oge and Daniel a happy married life.

In lieu of that, here are a few things you should not bother gifting a newlywed.

Used Items

I love thrifting and finding treasure at consignment stores. That’s not an all-together terrible thing. What I mean by used items is grabbing the chopping board on your shelf that has knife marks from when you got it 10 years ago. That’s what I mean. Try to project the love you feel towards the newlyweds into a thoughtful, soulful gift for them. They’ll love you and remember it forever.

Expired Items

A couple once received a flight ticket coupon that had expired months before their wedding. Talk about a wedding guest from hell! Lol. Whether that was done to be mischievous or it was just a good meaning mistake, we will never know, will we? Check items, gift coupons, cash backs etcetera for expiry dates or make sure the redemption dates are not to close to the date for the wedding. Couples are usually so busy and exhausted after the wedding that it may take them some time to go through their gifts.

Anything With The Price Tag Still On

On one end, it’s nice when you shop for an expensive gift for your friends on their wedding day. And you can take a sense of pride knowing that you helped them tick off the most expensive thing on their wedding registry. But you should take out the price tag of everything you consider a gift to someone. Anything at all. And for whatever occasion. No need for you to let them know that you spent so and so of your precious money on them. Let them appreciate your gift as is.

On the other end, what if you are on a tight budget and could only get the cheaper version of something? Don’t forget to take out that Walmart sticker to avoid a few giggle fests from the couple or anyone else that sees it.

These days, gift items have been made a lot easier because couples now have wedding/marriage registries where you can just go on the internet and pick something off the list that they already created. That way, you can be sure that you are getting something that they need and something that they will love.
