Interesting Characters From Our Favourite TV Shows

I have heard of, and seen my share of TV shows, both the popular and not so popular. I have also laughed at, cried over, and been frustrated with a character or two from the experience.

I have repeatedly said on here that I’m not a TV person, but I don’t exactly live under a rock either. So, I have heard of, and seen my share of TV shows, both the popular and not so popular.  have also laughed at, cried over, and been frustrated with a character or two from the experience.

It’s often interesting to ‘meet’ characters who we find so relatable, we want to hug or smack them, sometimes at the same time! So, I thought to compile a short list of TV characters I think are really relatable from random TV shows, old and new.

Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones TV Series

He may not be very lovable, but he’s definitely relatable. Because the average person loves the underdog. Also because the average person has been an underdog, angry at those who seem to have an unfair advantage, but willing to do the work to get those same advantages.

The main cast of The Good Place

If I had a penny for every time I’ve been as indecisive as Chidi, I would be rich. And if we’re being honest, we can relate to Eleanor’s cunning selfishness, Tahani’s envious image consciousness, and Michael’s desperate ambition, more than we’d like to admit. We probably know a hilariously shallow and clueless Jianyu too.

Phil Dunphy from Modern Family

A lot of people want to be liked like the often foolish Phil in Modern Family TV series. While we may not make as many gaffes as he does (at least not publicly), we have often tried to pass the harder work on to someone else a time or two. I know even my perfectionist self has.

Max Black from 2 Broke Girls

I’ve never been a waitress, but I have interesting memories of my very broke and single days. While my life was probably a lot less colourful (I wouldn’t place a bet on this, though), I definitely had quite a bit in common with the quirky, gritty, and pessimistic Max. If you live in our crazy, draining Nigeria, you probably do too. Lol.

Annalise Keating from How to Get Away With Murder

We may not have done the things she’s done yet (and never, hopefully), but Prof. Keating often feels like an uncomfortable mirror, to me at least. With the way she constantly lives in a morally grey area, she reminds me of the darker side that exists in all of us.

Olivia Pope from Scandal

She’s a boss, and she’s cute, but she’s not perfect. And while we may not be the ultimate ‘fixers’, we do have to survive Naija on a daily basis, which is no mean feat. She has family and romantic drama too, and she doesn’t know how to rest. Sound familiar?

Maybe it’s just me at the end of the day, but I’ve found these sometimes annoying, sometimes cute characters rather relatable.

Which TV characters do YOU find relatable?
