‘90S Kids, How About a Little Throwback?

Can we bring back great football, please? *sigh* The Super Eagles of the mid ’90s were considered the finest collection of players ever put together.

It’s amazing how time flies. Most kids born in the ’80s are pretty much in the parenting zone. ‘90s kids are well on their way and kids born in the year 2000 are most likely about to start or are already in University. Every generation believes the decade they grew up in was the best but I’m partial to the ‘90s (sue me). The ’90s were the best, from the fashion to the music, to the lifestyle in general. Those were the times that Choco milo was crunchy and not rock hard. Then, Goody Goody was the next best thing since sliced bread and Gala had a substantial amount of beef inside.

Apart from these nostalgic snacks from back in the day, here are a few other things I miss about the ‘90s.

TV shows

The TV shows from the ’90s were the best. They were engaging, funny and quite harmless compared to some of the things we watch now. It also felt good to have one place to watch all your favourite cartoons like Dexter’s Laboratory, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Voltron, G-force, Super Ted, Danger mouse, Doctor who, Sesame Street, the list is endless. Can we bring these back?

Dungarees and chokers

These are already making a comeback and if you’re a comfort queen, dungarees are for you. They’re trendy and adaptable and you can wear with heels or flats depending on the occasion. With a colourful top and a choker, you’ll look like you just walked out of a top-notch music video with TLC lol. #slayage

Love letters

Love letters were so cheesy and cute and I wish they would make a comeback. They just seem a bit more personal and heartfelt compared to the Whatsapp era we’re in now. Of course, then, your girlfriend would reply with her letter and a kiss made with her lipstick on it. LOL. Simple and sweet. No grand gestures of love on social media to compare yours with.

Quality music

The ’90s was no doubt the era of good and clean music. From hip-hop to rap to soul and even rock. We had foreign timeless artists like Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and then the heartthrobs with the likes of Boys2men, Backstreet boys and many more. Their music is classic, and I still listen to many of them today, it’s music that cuts across generations. In Nigeria, we had Evy Edna, Ebenezer Obey, Lagbaja, Fela Kuti, whose music is still being sampled in many new age artists’ songs, and many more. Music was much more enjoyable in that era. There are some good artists releasing good music now of course but the 90s had a sound to be reckoned with.

Football

Can we bring back great football, please? *sigh* The Super Eagles of the mid-’90s were considered the finest collection of players ever put together. In 1994, Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time. Their football was a beauty to behold. The camaraderie and excitement their matches brought about were infectious. Even people who couldn’t care less about football found themselves attending viewing parties and the like.

I could go on and on about the ’90s but I’ll stop here and ask; what do you miss the most about the 90’s that you would like to bring back?
