Three Thoughtful Christmas DIY Gift Ideas

Christmas DIY Gift Ideas

I recently started DIYing and have come across some amazing options for Christmas gifts. It is simply a world of many possibilities as the options are plentiful and each of the artsy creations are endearing in its own way. From home made snow globes to yummy Christmas themed treats, the gift ideas are beginner friendly and do not require you to be an art expert to create something unique. Here are a few interesting ones.

Nail Polish Painted Mugs

This gift idea needs a total of five supplies with instructions that are easy to carry out. The end result are well worth it too. On the list of supplies are a large disposable container, plain white mugs, tooth picks, a selection of colored nail polish and a paper towel. First, fill the disposable container with warm water, add few drops of nail polish on the surface of the water, don’t allow it to settle at the bottom then swirl it with the toothpick to create a pattern. You can make use of more than one color of nail polish (black and blue creates a wonderful design). After this step, dip the lower part of the mug in the container of the water and polish mixture. Allow it to dry and your painted mugs are ready.

Snow Globes

Although this is not your conventional snow globe, the result is just as wholesome. To create this, you’ll need transparent plastic jars, glycerin or baby oil, distilled water, white glitter, sandpaper, water resistant glue and plastic miniatures which could be a small Christmas tree, a figure of a reindeer etc. I started the process by cleaning the plastic jars and drying them out, after this, file the lid of the plastic jar with the sand paper and attach the plastic miniature to it with water resistant glue, let it set completely before proceeding. Then fill the jar with distilled water not completely though leave space for the lid of the jar, add a drop of glycerin or baby oil to the water, this is done to make the glitter fall slowly, finally add the white glitter and insert the lid with the plastic miniature into the jar. Shake your plastic jar and watch the snow globe come alive.

Chocolate and Ginger Treats

For me, a gift becomes more attractive when it is edible, and these chocolate bites are so simple to make.  Creating a batch and giving it to a relative that has a sweet tooth would be considered especially thoughtful. My best part of this recipe is that it is made with just six ingredients however the distinct green and red sprinkles in this recipe gives the fudge a fun, Christmassy feel. The ingredients needed are: melted white chocolate, condensed milk, red and green sprinkles, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon and ginger. To start off, mix the white chocolate and condensed milk in a large bowl, then add the ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir everything together with a major portion of the green and red sprinkles till it is properly mixed. In a baking dish, line with parchment paper and put in the mixture, smoothening every spoonful while adding extra green and red sprinkles. Place this in the fridge and cut it into squares when it has solidified. The result is a delicious mouthful of chocolate and ginger goodness. DIY gifts are a wonderful experience all on their own and the end products are only half the fun.
