Lagos feels kind of confusing right now. On one hand, people are leaving the city in droves to go back to their hometowns. Still, the crowd in Lagos isn’t still letting up because our I Just Got Back brothers and sisters from the abroad are coming in droves as well.
So, I’m writing this one for our returnee people, and of course, all returnee wannabees. Asides staying for hours in traffic, here are the things you can do for fun in Lagos this Christmas.
Attend a concert
Were you even in Lagos in December if you did not attend a concert? You don’t even have to look far to find one. The ads are scattered around the city and buying a ticket is just one website click away on your mobile phone.
My personal recommendation will be anyone that was seriously selling out and was constantly on the charts this year. Maybe someone that has a song title that rhymes with Kanye. *Coughs*
Hit the hot and new restaurants
Thankfully (and probably depending on your circle), restaurants and bars in Lagos are gaining more hype than the clubs these days. Legend has it that from the 10th month of the year, a new spot pops up in Lagos every week.
Hanging out in these new places and posting on social media is the new cool.
Eat at a Bukka!
Yes, the shiny new Lekki and Victoria Island restaurants are cool, but you should really have at least one experience at a local bukka. The food is insanely cheap and probably not the best out and about, but you can have one for the books. It is an experience you won’t forget. Trust me. You won’t forget it. The experience will most likely come with diarrhoea, but it is worth it!
See local art
Picasso and his siblings are cool, but have you seen what a Nigerian local artist can do with a broom? Or leather? The best thing about Nigerian art to me is that it can be created with almost anything. There are so many local art markets and art centres that you can visit in Lagos. Wondering where to start? Try googling art events in Lagos.
Buy Nigerian
We already discussed art. Use that dollar wisely and purchase locally made goods. Buy Nigerian made clothes especially the ones with traditional fabrics. It is a lot cheaper than you will get it in whatever country you are coming from, it is also cool to wear and lastly, you are helping out the economy. So, put that dollar to work!
All in all, stay safe on your trip, stay wise and alert. There’s really no need to pull out the accents except if you want to pay three times the regular price of an item.
