Social Distancing? Podcasts to the Rescue!

I have always struggled with listening to the radio and finding a station with the kind of content I enjoy. The hassle of flipping from station to station especially while driving left me so frustrated that I would end up just listening to music on my phone. So discovering podcasts felt like stumbling into a gem. I could find podcasts specific to my needs, subscribe and voila! Content just the way I like it.

Interestingly, podcasts appear to be the rave these days. But it can be quite overwhelming for newcomers who are not sure how to find the content they like, or what value podcasts even offer. Plus, with everything happening now, a good podcast subscription will definitely help with maintaining some sanity. Well, not to worry. In this post, I share my journey to podcasts and why I think it is definitely the go-to point for relaxation and premium content this period.

You have inspiration/motivation on demand

Many of us young professionals need that extra boost of motivation to keep us productive. Yet, we are constantly moving to the next deadline in a haze. Podcasts enable us to stay motivated on-the-go. Think about sitting on a desk with 13,000 open tabs but with your favourite business coaches pumping you up, right from the comfort of your headset. Feels like a win!

Content on podcasts can help ease loneliness

You will agree that despite the love and support of family, being an adult can get lonely sometimes. With podcasts, you could plug into the experience of people in similar situations than you. Kind of what you get from blogs, except it’s audio and tends to feel closer home. So, say you are not really into the motivational punchline type of thing, you could always benefit from the inspiring life and humour stories shared by podcast hosts.

Podcasts broaden your perspective

Imagine learning about the mating lives of toads. Or knowing about the earliest sales ports in India. Yes, that is how far-ranging topics on podcasts can be. You’d be hard-pressed not to find a topic you’re looking for. Or other random information that could be useful. There is so much we don’t know and can learn via podcasts.

If you’re self-isolating or even if you have no choice but to go out, I would encourage you to find a podcast with positive and empowering vibes. I listen to podcasts a lot while I work and it helps keep my mind focused on the good and not the bad and the ugly.

Better yet, if you share some interesting podcasts you find helpful in the comment section, I’ll also share my personal favs. C’mon, let’s go! 🙂
