Simple Hacks To Get Rid Of Stubborn Stains and Clogs

Woman happy to clean her home

I have always been one to try out new things, especially if it is something uncommon but safe. This goes from kitchen experiments to fashion adventures. Yes, I know it’s not radical like bungee jumping, but adventure can have many forms of expression. Lately I’ve been tinkering with household cleaning items. Some of my recent discoveries are so completely off the radar that you would never have guessed. And while cleaning supplies are generally accessible in stores, these hacks below can also be lifesaving in their own right.

Cleaning with Coca-cola: Although this was a disturbing visual of what Coca cola actually does in your body, it totally works as a cleaning agent. For discoloured toilets, pour half bottle of cola or more, depending on how bad it is, then leave till the next day. The chemicals in the drink would remove the stains, after which you can now scrub with a toilet brush and flush. (now you don’t have to force-drink those extra bottles of coke in your fridge. *winks)

For burnt black stains in pots or pans, you can also use the drink. Simply pour it in the pots or pans that have those stains and place them on the fire, bring to a boil for a few minutes and then pour it out, wash with a sponge and rinse.

Microwave a Lemon: Cleaning a microwave comes as an afterthought most times, but with this handy tip, you can clean it while using it. The savior in this case is lemon. Cut the lemon into small pieces and place in a microwave safe bowl with water. Put it in the microwave, switch it on and wait for it to boil, once you see it steaming, you know it’s done. The heat from the steam removes all the clogged-up dirt, you can then wipe it off with a dry rag.

Oven Cleaner: This is a basic cleaner, but it also does the work. After clearing the pieces of food lodged in the oven, spray baking soda on all the parts you want to clean and then add vinegar on those same parts, leave the mixture in the oven for about an hour. When the time elapses, you scrub with a dry brush or sponge and then pack up the dirt with a wet cloth. The oven is now fresh and clean.

These cleaning tips are just a little something to add to your toolkit, they’re suitable replacements whenever you think of trying them out and they work really well.
