Raise Your Hands If You Still Panic About Your 2020 Goals

Woman falling into panic mode after assessing her goals

It feels like yesterday the world went on lockdown, and next thing, we are here in August. A year that initially seemed too slow now appears to be racing, and we are all still stuck at home or with facemasks. #Sigh. If you are like me, then you’ve been thinking about all the plans you made in January. Like-joke, like-joke, nobody has a clear end date for this pandemic. So my question is, which way na? How do we move forward?

Several times this year I talked about reappraising those goals. See, for someone who started off with vision board, you can tell I don’t take this lightly. Yet, I understand that checking in on your goals with everything happening is quite daunting. It is natural to wonder what the point is. But I think it is worth a shot so I decided to share a few thoughts to help you reappraise your goals.

Categorise Them

One way to do this would be to put your goals into two categories. Look at the ones that are still feasible this year and the ones that most likely aren’t because of Covid-19. You’re not discarding them, you’re just focusing on what you can feasibly achieve by the end of the year.

This will help to narrow your focus. The good thing about a mid-year goal review is that it helps you identify if your goals still align with your priorities. After surviving a global pandemic, you may start looking at life differently and what used to be important, may not be so important anymore. So that’s one thing to take note of.

Has your outlook on life changed? This may affect your initial goals for the year.

Track Your Current Actions

A mid-year goal review also gives you the opportunity to track your current actions. You get to determine if you are inching closer to accomplishing your goals or not. Sometimes we want to stick our head in the sand and not be bothered about the details but if you really desire to get to your destination faster, you’ll have to bring it right out and face the coffee. It may be your daily habits, time management, procrastination, etc. Looking closely at your actions and patterns will show you what you need to work on.

It’s Not Too Late

I know it’s August but you can still salvage time. Don’t be afraid of a mid-year goal review. With all that happened, it’s easy to think you’ve lost too much time to do anything meaningful this year. But a lot can happen in the next four months. Be willing to go through your list and make necessary adjustments. You can still achieve a lot this year.

Have you panicked about your goals recently? What are you doing to stay centered and achieve some of them? Please share in the comment section. I’d love to read from you 🙂
