My Top Best Things Of 2020

Grateful young lady counting her blessings

I started out this year like many people; with a list of things I hoped to achieve. 2020 saw this list, tore it into about 100 pieces, crumpled the pieces, set in on fire and then laughed in my face. I mean, that’s what it feels like. First, my Dubai plans were thwarted, and I didn’t think too much of it. It was only January and I had 11 more months to spare. I was focused on finishing school and starting the rest of my best life.

Covid hit and everything halted, even school (being in a 3rd world country has to have cons). 10 months down and it has been the most surprising and exhausting year of my life. And trust me, I have had a few of those.

I really wanted to complain and grind my teeth and whine about the whole thing, (to be honest, I still do a bit of that in secret). But for the most time, I find myself extremely grateful for a lot of things. Both personal and general.

I got to learn a lot more about my work

I took courses, applied to a lot more jobs and even got a few offers. I am grateful that I am not limited to offline jobs. If this was you this year then you should be grateful that you could work from home too.

I got to see young Nigerians do exceptionally well

From local startups like Paystack going global to the #EndSars movement, young people really proved that they can shake up the world even during a pandemic.

I saw people in the world helping each other out and sacrificing for the greater good

The health workers that sacrificed their time, comfort and even lives. We cannot be grateful enough. People really took their time to lend a hand in every way they could. It was beautiful to watch. And now towards the end of 2020, we actually have a vaccine on the way to curb this virus. We will be getting back to normal very soon, and that makes me emotional.

The amazing albums that came out this year

We were at home but a lot of music artists were really working their butts off to bring us feel good songs and just general vibes. Music helped a lot of us this year. And I am grateful for that. Let me know your fav albums in the comments.

TikTok

You can’t talk about 2020 without talking about tiktok. It was this massive force that gave us fun as well as education. Remember the Don’t Rush challenge? Iconic!

My faith

I learnt a lot and reaffirmed my personal beliefs more this year than any other year. It has been a year of growth.

2020 was quite a year. But if you’re alive and healthy, you have a lot to be thankful for. So lift your head high and plan for next year because it will be amazing.
