Top Random Things I (Re)Discovered in 2019

Favourite things of 2019

I find that almost every year brings a new discovery for me. Sometimes it may be something I’ve always known about but only just applied to my life. So below, I share a list of my top random finds or discoveries in 2019.

Soul mate hair conditioner

Don’t laugh. I’ve always had a bad case of dandruff and most salons have told me to use coconut oil or some other natural oil for my scalp. Only natural products, they said. Or just suck it up and wash my hair every week, which I didn’t see happening. A friend of mine shared how she was saved by Soul mate hair conditioner and I thought, hey what do I have to lose? Bear in mind, that I felt this product was cheap and would never work if all these expensive natural hair products hadn’t worked. I ate my words because it worked really well and has pretty much solved my hair issues. *hangs head in shame*

White trainers(or trainers in general)

I went through a phase where if I was going for an event, it had to be heels. Also, heels were almost the unspoken code for being a grown woman. But then I happened upon the young, cutesy fashion that pretty much entails wearing trainers with everything. It was fab AND comfortable. Now, people are shocked to find that I actually have heels in my closet. 🙂

Journals

I think I have too many journals now lol. Ankara covered ones, flowery ones, plain ones, I will most likely have to give some away. But the power of writing down your thoughts, prayers, hopes, declarations, things you’re thankful for, etc, is so therapeutic and empowering at the same. Journalling is something I won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Tea

Yes I know I’m late to the party but I have always been a coffee person. I never really liked tea or understood the hype around it. Until I discovered really good Kenyan tea that I fell in love with. I still love my coffee but I can easily go weeks on just tea in the morning, no coffee. This used to be an anomaly.

Candles

I’ve been gifted candles many times in the past and never bothered to light any. I would open the box, take in the scent and put them back lol, weird I know. Until the day I finally got round to lighting one and let’s just say that I need more now.

Fairy lights

Fairy lights aren’t necessarily a new find. I had seen them on ‘Oyibo’ social media and Pinterest but I’d never used them. I recently added them to my home decor and I hope I don’t end up overdoing it, lol. They bring such an ethereal feel to the area I placed them in that I know I’ll definitely be buying more to add to other areas of my apartment.

Natural hair dye

Natural hair dye was a blessing to me because I didn’t want permanent hair colour, neither did I want anything that could possibly damage my hair. I wanted to be able to add colours and wash them out at will, especially for #DettyDecember. Hehe.
