Making The Most of 2021

Black woman planning for the new year

After the kind of year that we’ve had, many of us might think: what’s the point of setting goals or planning for 2021? After all, 2020 made our vision boards seem like we were playing. See ehn, if you are tired and your tired is tired, I understand. But if you are up for it, why not dream again? After all,  hope is what keeps us going, so we plan anyway, we set those goals, despite the uncertainty of the coming year, bearing in mind what we’ve learn from the past year. Below I share a few ways to plan reasonably for 2021.

Keep your options open& be flexible

With the whole world in a limbo, sticking to absolutes may not help. If you plan to do more traveling, why not consider local destinations? You’ll be surprised at the treasure you’ll find in your backyard if you cared to look closely enough. My husband and I got just back from a trip to Abuja and we discovered some gems on our trip, we’d have never imagined existed in Nigeria.

Build or join an online community

Having a tribe or community is not just a social trend, they’re a legit need, especially with the uncertainty and loneliness of living in a pandemic. Humans need connection. And with physical connection being threatened more and more, building or joining an online community is the way to go. Do you due diligence, ask your friends or just gather your own peeps and create your own your own community.

Transition your business online

If you haven’t already done this, it begs the question ‘What are you waiting for, sis?’ Also, this doesn’t mean just open up a social media page, owning your own website is important as well. Saying ‘the future is digital’ is a bit of understatement. The future is already here.

Learn a new skill

Learn about something new e.g. recycling or coding. It can be anything really. Check out lists of relevant skills with an increasing need in the workforce or in business and pick one or two. Or it could be life skills or soft skills. The point is, keep growing.:)

Apply for as many opportunities as you can

Don’t hold back, despite all the negative reports going round. Apply for that scholarship or residency, or that new job that you think you are not qualified for. This isn’t the time to be holding back on your dreams. Life as we have seen, is way too unpredictable. In other words, shoot your shot o, you never know what will bring the harvest.

Live your best life each moment

Enjoy every moment. Don’t take anything for granted. Whether you smash your goals or not, remain grateful. Don’t let your worth or happiness be tied to being a high achiever.
