Makeup Hacks Every Young Lady Should Know

makeup hacks for black women

For many ladies, makeup is a feature of everyday living. Whether you wear it light or heavy, you will agree that most women rely on at least powder or cream to keep things looking fresh and shiny. But! Just like we have bad hair days, there are also bad makeup days. Those days with the foundation melting on side of the face, or the smudged mascara or the lipstick caked on your mouth. #Sigh. The struggle is real.

Anyway, in this piece, I share a few tricks to help you enjoy your make-up game a little better.

Granted it can go bad sometimes, but with these tricks, you get to enjoy the process a little bit more.

Enjoy!

Don’t throw away old eyeshadow

Eyeshadow comes in different colours as we all know and it’s also common knowledge that we all have our fave colours that get used up leaving the other hues untouched. Instead of throwing them out, do these; those eyeshadow colours can still come in handy. Mix a bit of the eyeshadow with petroleum jelly a.k.a Vaseline, apply on your lips and you’re good to go.

Use Shea butter as Lip Balm

Dry chapped lips plus dry lipstick is a bad combo, that’s why moisturizing your lips is one important thing, when store-bought lip balm finishes, Shea butter is a natural and very healthy alternative. For a little bit of flavour, add coconut oil to melting Sheabutter.

When you run out of eye primer, Use concealer

Eye primer provides an excellent base for applying your eye shadow. But when you put your hand in your makeup bag and suddenly discover you didn’t bring it on a trip with you, or the little that remains won’t be enough, switch up and use concealer, it serves as a good substitute.

Check your Final Makeup Under Different Lighting

After finishing up with your makeup, checking it is like the final tick in the box, do this under sufficient light to check for concealer fail (white splotches) and any other mistakes. Preferably use your camera with the flash on.

Running late, Carve or Shapen your eyebrows

Most times, the eyebrows are the highlight of your make up. And the time you spend to draw it on or get it into shape might not always be there.  Here’s a hack; make sure it’s always carved and shaped in the style you want, so on those days when you’re pressed for time, you don’t spend any more on it
