How to Get Your A-game When Working From Home

Work from home? A lot of us have been wanting to hear these words all our lives! LOL. Maybe not exactly in these circumstances that have the world looking like a scene from the movie “Contagion”, but we sure have anticipated this.

Now that a lot of the world is in isolation to flatten the curve of the pandemic, many people now have to work from home.

See, Becca? All those unnecessary meetings all those years could have been done via email. Haha

But even as we work from home, we still need to keep the ethics and keep our shops running smoothly. Those toilet papers and sanitizers won’t buy themselves.

So, what are the ways we can stay productive while working from home?

Have a workstation

And no I don’t mean put your laptop at the corner of your bed, sis. I mean a table and comfortable work chair that you can sit on that will give you the simulation of being in an office. If you don’t have a desk, try your dinning table.

Your workstation should be preferably away from the sight of your bed and the couch. This is so that you won’t be tempted to lounge for a minute and then eventually find yourself not getting any work done.

I like a clean workspace facing a solid wall where I can focus. And now that you’ll be staying home with all the distractions, you need laser focus for the time you have dedicated to work. Remember, it’s quarantine, not retirement.

Wear actual clothes

Haha, okay maybe it’s funny. But what I mean is, you can at least put on a clean shirt and get out of those pyjamas.

When you are wearing real clothes, you feel more like you’re working or more awake. Your urge to reach for that snack may be curbed because you don’t want to ruin your nice shirt. Also, you can easily take work video calls at any time, if you’re dressed properly.

Double-check your set up

You don’t want to have to get up every five minutes to go find something. Just like your regular desk at work, get all your files ready. Set up your gadgets and electronics. Make sure the internet is set up properly and efficiently. Also, get your generator and fuel on standby. Have backup internet providers. Basically, no slacking and no excuses just because your boss is not a few feet from you.

This will make your work time run smoothly and more efficiently. Even though you’re at home.

Take Breaks

Last but not least. Don’t get too caught up that you forget to take a break. This can happen even if you’re working from home. Set break times as you would while in your office. Also, don’t exceed your break times because that could end up eating into work time.

Let’s make proper use of this time. Remember to stay active even though you’re home, take your vitamins, stay hydrated, stay safe, informed, vigilante and prayerful.

The world will get through this.
