Home Decor: Tips To Take Your Space From Drab to Fab!

If in your home, you have been tying your food ingredients in yellow and black nylon bags, (or what my Nigerians will call water-proof) now is the time to stop!

It’s 2019 and we should be done with that.

Many homes can look a hundred times better than they do, if only they can put in some time to apply some organisational tips.

Let us discuss the little things that can lift your space from drab to fab. From clustered to pristine.

Use vertical space

In Nigerian homes especially, we have cabinets and drawers that we use to store things. But we can make use of the walls above those cabinets to create extra storage for items. A wall of shelves helps you see exactly what you have in stock and what is running low.

It keeps things organised and free of clutter.

A vertical space an also be aesthetic. You can put your best shoes and bags on display to create a shoe wall.

Repurpose transparent containers

If you have money to spare, find mason jars of all sizes to help you display your grains, cereals and nuts(in your kitchen) and your cotton balls and Q-tips(in your bathrooms).

If you can’t find mason jars, any transparent container will suffice. Wash out your old peanut butter jar and reuse it. It reduces waste, gives a clean look and helps our environment

An extra tip is to label all jars for easy access.

Add racks behind doors.

Use cable ties or cord keepers

There’s nothing more annoying than tripping over a cable/wire lying around. It’s unsafe and looks very untidy. Use cord keepers to wrap cables while they are out of use. It automatically reduces the look of  clutter in any home.

Hang your pots and pans

Pots and pans can take up way too much space where other things can be stored. Hanging your pots helps you save tons of space and at the same time can look very aesthetic.

Make use of the back of your doors

Hang things ranging from ironing boards, extra towels and even small bicycles behind the door.

It helps to save tons of space.

Try the Marie Kondo Folding Method

The Konmarie method is increasingly popular for good reason. The file folding technique helps to manage space and helps you see all your clothes at once. It makes things very organised and reduces the time spent picking out what to wear.

Consider a bed with storage

Especially if you have a small home, you need all the extra space you can get. A bed with inbuilt drawers will help you get some extra clothes and things out of the way.

No matter how big or small your home is, with proper organisation and occasional decluttering, you don’t have to worry about it looking untidy or crammed.
