Home Decor: Setting Up Your Dream Kitchen

Imagine going house hunting and finding the house of your dreams. The living room is nice, bedrooms and bathrooms are great, and then, you walk into the kitchen and everything pretty much comes crashing down. Personally, I would never take an apartment if I don’t like the kitchen. Even if you’re not much of a cook, there’s just something about having a kitchen that you like and enjoy walking in and out of. You may not have the money to remodel your kitchen. But there are a few things you can do which will help you transform your kitchen into something you can live with at the very least.

Draw up a budget

Drawing up a budget first. This is the first thing that will guide all your decisions. So you can draw up a budget and then go window shopping to see if your budget is even realistic and if you have to tweak it a bit. Or you can go window shopping first and draw up a budget based on this. Either way, make sure you’re thorough and look for good deals.

Know your preferred kitchen style

Pinterest is a good place to start. If you’re a minimalist/modern, less is more for you and most of your appliances and utensils would be silver, black or white..neutral colours. If you’re a more traditional person, this approach may seem a bit ‘cold’ to you so you may want a more warm and homely looking kitchen. Buy appliances that are suitable for the size of your kitchen and lifestyle

Don’t buy a massive fridge or six-burner cooker if your kitchen hardly has enough space for two people to move around freely. If you have limited space, buy appliances that will save space for you. For e.g. buy a fridge freezer instead of both separately. Doing this will leave your kitchen less cluttered and more orderly. On the other hand, if you have a spacious kitchen and you have kids, you will need the six-burner stove and a separate fridge and freezer.

Use the right workmen

If you’re going to need carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc, it’s essential you use the right ones. Do your due diligence. The easiest way is to ask family and friends for referrals. Make sure you know someone they’ve done a good job for. This can save you future stress and save you money as well.
