A 20 Something Year Old’s Guide to Finding Mr Right

On the one hand, there is Mr A who you think could be your Mr Right. When you think of being with someone, he is the one who effortlessly comes to mind.

In the midst of crushes that last forever, and declarations of unrequited “I love yous”  we are sometimes left to silently wonder: how do we go from Mr Available to Mr Right? The thing is, many girls have checklists of what they want their Mr Right to be or look like. But because life is not perfect, many girls struggle to find the One. And so, we often shuffle through our checklist, wondering if we are making the right choice by refusing to settle.

Because how do you settle and what do you settle for?” And what do you consider when picking Mr Right?

The One You Love Vs. The One Who Loves You

On the one hand, there is Mr A who you think could be your Mr Right. When you think of being with someone, he is the one who effortlessly comes to mind. On the other hand, there is Mr B who will do anything to please you but you don’t see him “like that”.  In such instance, there is no clear-cut answer. But some things are standard. If care is not taken, your initial indifference to Mr B may morph into deep gratitude and quiet acceptance.  But one day, he will slip, maybe make a mistake and you will be the first to castigate him. There will be no real interest and therefore no real sense of loyalty.  And it is not only unfair to him, but it is also unhealthy for you. Bottom line, if your heart is not in it, it is not worth it.

The One Everyone Chooses Vs. The One Your Heart Chooses

There are times you find yourself in the awkward scenario of being with someone whom everyone is rooting for. However, regardless of which public eye approves your relationship, remember that It will be you who spends the most time with that person. So people’s opinions should not override your feelings.  It is your love life, your heart on the line, so choose what resonates best with you. If it ends up being a mistake, you will learn from it and do better next time. If it works out, you will be immensely happy and proud of yourself. And chances are, everyone will end up happy in the end.

The Truth Is…

Choosing a romantic partner is tedious. In the real world, it is not just about you and how you feel about your man, it is what kind of family you think you will make with him, your relationship with his family and his with yours, and your relationship with yourselves. It might look pretty and the selfless thing to do putting yourself out for every butterfly that tickles your belly, because life is short, right!? But reason demands that whatever we are getting into is worth it.

So remember this:  You are your own person. And that your choice is valid, regardless of how or when you find Mr Right.
