Nine Books to Snuggle Up With This Christmas

Happy woman reading a book over Christmas

If you are anything like me, you would have started counting down to the Christmas holidays. End of the year parties, more free time, family reunions, good ‘ole Christmas Jollof and a period of well-deserved rest for we working folks. It’s a time I just unwind, learn a new skill and update my Kindle and paperback library.

This list below are books that made me laugh and cry. I fell in love with the beautiful characters and learnt a lot so much so that I was really sad when it came to the last page. Don’t worry, there’re no spoilers. Hope you have a cosy snuggly holiday with family and books.

44 Charles Street by Danielle Steele

A house, four tenants and a demon. Danielle Steele tells a story on drug addiction, rebuilding lives after pain and coming out from the ashes a stronger person and how four strangers helped each other achieve that.

One of us is Lying by Karen M. Mcmanus

A delinquent, a nerd, a football captain and a gossip column reporter locked in detention. Hours later, one of them is dead, who is the murderer? no one knows. Apparently, one of them is lying.

Americannah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Soon to be made into a major motion picture with Lupita Nyongo starring in it as the main character. It features a romance tested by time, the culture shock that every Nigerian face when living in America. Ifemelu and Obinze will take you through all sorts of emotions and at the end will have you rooting for their love story.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

A tale of racism told through the eyes of three people, the house help, a writer and an abused woman. Set in the city of Mississippi, it’s a story of the brave and courageous act of three women.

Every Breath You Take by Judith Mcnaught

I’ve been a fan of Judith Mcnaught and she delivers with this spicy and well-written rom-com that will leave you wanting more pages.

The hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu

If you love hair salons and dirty secrets, you would love this book. Set in Zimbabwe, it opens up with a story of the thriving salon, the hairstylists and their very secret lives.

Obsession by Nora Roberts

A serial killer and a copycat, little Naomi woke up one night and went on a journey that changed her life. Ten years later, she was still paying the consequences of that little action.

Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

This was M\magic and an albino heroine that I loved. Akata Witch explored telling the story of witchcraft from the point of good. Nnedi tells us that Nigerian witches do not only know black magic.

The Shining by Stephen King

From the mind of the Mastermind of horror. King weaves a tale of a scary hotel that imprisons the souls of people that it wants and this time it is gunning for the soul of Danny, a boy with the gift of second sight who just moved in with his family.

Books to me are always like cheap plane tickets. You can get a good deal for as little as the price of a cup of coffee. So what are you waiting for? Start stocking up your Christmas reading list
