Dealing With Flying Roaches And Other Annoying Pest Concerns

dead cockroach

Is there any other way to kill a spider than to do it with all your power and might and soul? Ugh. If you are anything like me, then thoughts of bugs or pests of any kind make you cringe, like ‘eww’ raised to power one billion. I know we are all for saving the environment and letting non-human creatures thrive in their natural habitat, but see, my kitchen is not one of those places. In fact, I will not be responsible for how I respond to those crawling insects.

Now, roaches in particular can be so annoying. I transform into a squealing, hand flapping helpless human when I see a cockroach, let’s not even talk about the flying ones—those ones are either witches or clearly high on something. Lol. I can’t be the only one who’s woken up to see a random cockroach watching me from a wall across the room or walked into a room confidently and left squealing at the sight of a cockroach. I know I’ve definitely asked the good Lord above what the point of these creatures are and why we have to co-exist with them on earth.

Anyway, if you struggle with the occasional pest problem, there are ways you can keep your house bug free as much as is within your power. I share a few below. Yes, you are welcome!

Seal in cracks

Cracks and crevices in the walls of your home could possibly be acting as a home and breeding ground for bugs. I’ve seen a few cracks in my home as well, in door frames and the like and made the decision to seal them up. You should consider this if you have a long-lasting bug infestation.

Declutter

Bugs are generally more comfortable in hidden spaces, annoyingly so. So, if you have a lot of clutter, de-cluttering gives them no place to hide.

Use essential oils

Essential oils like Lavender, Peppermint and Neem oil repel a number of insects. For Neem oil, you can spray on your indoor plants and for the other two you can mix a few drops with water and spray around your home and affected areas.

Deep clean

Try and do a thorough deep clean in your home as often as you can. This includes deep cleaning your mattress, furniture, curtains, carpets etc.

Spray insecticide

Not just a quick spray when you see a bug. Make it a habit to spray your home (or room if you can’t leave the house) every evening before going to bed. If you’re going out for a while, drench your home in insecticide before you leave, lol. Just make sure you’re using the ones that aren’t harmful to humans.
