Creating “instagrammable” content from home

Female photographer creating content at home

My fellow writer wrote about how the lockdown was unlocking the Instagram influencer in us. But if you are still at home and all your favourite spots are still closed, how on earth are you going to take all those amazing picture content?

For freelance, lifestyle creatives like me, this is a bit of a problem. Yes, yes, I know not everyone is a travel blogger so you are probably just happy being a couch potato and not having to create content. But seriously, a little dress up and click of the phone every now and again won’t be bad. We all need that extra entertainment.

So here are a few things helping me create content this period.

Create a mood board

Pinterest is the mother app for inspiration. Anything from photographing koalas in the Arctic to home shoots. Find photos that match up what you intend to create. And photos you can easily recreate. Pin home shoot photos and I’m sure it’ll give you a pretty good boost.

Use your home spaces

That couch may be more aesthetically pleasing than you think. Your balcony may just have an amazing view that you want to show off. Even kitchen counters can be nice for nice post-gym photo content.

Create DIY spaces

If you’re not feeling the spaces in your home or you have exhausted the corners, you can create a makeshift studio. Don’t underestimate a large solid coloured bed sheet and some paper tape. Stick it to the wall and viola, you have your own studio.

Follow the light

Try to take photos facing the largest windows. Natural lights are effective, efficient and best of all, free! If you already have ring lights and softboxes, that’s great. But if you don’t, good old sunlight will do the trick. Bonus tip, shoot during dusk or dawn for that perfect golden hour lighting.

Work those angles

Remember you’re home and the advantage of that is you don’t have strangers staring at you while trying to create the perfect street style shot. Make use of that and be creative. Play with light, shadows, your body, your outfits. Color, textures and all. Think outside the box and you’re already on your way to creating magic.

Now you can create fire content from your home while staying safe in these times.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
