Corona Christmas: How to Make The Season Count

Christmas in a pandemic

For many people, the Christmas holiday period equals quality time with family and friends. Plus, given the year that 2020 has been, we could all do with a little more human connection. Personally, I am looking forward to the gist overload, catching up, bear hugs and loud laughter, all accompanied with amazing food and gifts, of course!

Unfortunately, we can’t completely say that the pandemic won’t find a way to dampen Christmas this year. #Sniff.  There is still a virus out there and its wise to consider how your actions might be putting family members at risk. This is why I’ve also been thinking about creative ways to slay this Christmas despite the corona virus.

Here are a few ways we can make the season count:

Send food

This is a great idea for the elderly who may not have the luxury or the strength to do plenty cooking. Sending food, if possible, enough for a significant part of the holiday season will definitely make a potentially dreary holiday special for them.

Drop off gifts

You may not be able to open your gifts with your loved ones this year, but this doesn’t cancel buying gifts for each other. You can buy gifts and have them delivered or drop them off in person while keeping a reasonable distance. Then together, you can open them via video call which brings me to my next point.

Use technology

There are countless video call apps out there. When your meals or gifts have been delivered, you can enjoy the meals, open the gifts and bicker and banter via video to your hearts content.

Shop online

The closer it gets Christmas, the more manic shopping gets. Shopping malls get to the point where they’re brimming with people. To avoid putting yourself and others at a higher risk, shop online.

I understand we’re not all in countries where the risk is extremely high, but wherever you are, it’s still important to stay safe. So if you do attend a family gathering, remember to avoid sharing utensils, keep your distance, keep your mask on as much as you can and wash your hands vigorously and frequently.

Happy Holidays!
