Which of These Friends Are You?

Three Female Friends

If you’ve been on Whatsapp long enough, then you are probably in at least three WhatsApp groups. From, to family, to childhood friends and the friends you met at a random trip. Not that I’m complaining, personally I have made friends whose unique qualities have met different needs in my life. For example, the friends you go to for advice may not necessarily be the ones you want to hang out with on a Friday night. Or the one who is quick to pull an ‘Olivia Pope’ on your behalf may not be a great listener. Different friendships serve different purposes in your life but if you don’t know this, you will bicker and take offence when your greatest listener is not so keen to hang out at the club with you.

Just in case you are wondering where your friends fall under, here is an in-exhaustive list of different kinds of friends.

The Encourager/Cheerleader

You need friends who have the right words and believe you can do anything. And even if they feel this is a wrong path you’re taking, they’ll tell you in such a way that you will still feel encouraged, even if they just told you it’s a bad idea. That friend that will share, repost, retweet whatever idea or product you’re selling and believes in you much more than you do yourself. If you’re an encourager or cheerleader, your cynical friends celebrate you lol.

The Listener

I really believe some friends have a gift for this. Not everyone has the patience or ability to listen intently for long periods of time without their minds drifting. And sometimes you don’t really need advice, a solution or a long speech. You just need to talk and rant to your heart’s content. That ever-patient, listening friend is the one who graciously bears this burden.

The Spontaneous One

If you’re a control freak, there’s nothing like having a spontaneous friend in your corner. They will brighten up your life and get you to loosen up. Inasmuch as you may meet their random suggestions and ideas on a whim with great resistance, you’ll find that many times you end up glad that you took the risk. Spontaneity, they say, is the spice of life. *wink*

The Hook-Up

There is nothing like having people who have contacts for everything. From a carpenter to a plumber to a caterer to a wedding music band lol, you name it. And if they don’t have the details, give them five minutes, and they’ll have it for you. This person is generally a life-saver and saves you the stress of searching for services.

So, imagine you’re the friend in question, which one are you on this list?
