If I were to describe 2021 In one word, I would describe it as fulfilling. It has been a year filled with so many lessons that I could fit probably fit all of it into a book. I never would have imagined how much I would grow this year but grow I did. I would love to share with you some of the things I learned this year.
Patience
2021 was my best year because it taught me that good things take time. Many of the things I prayed for, I got this year. For example, I have always wanted a scholarship for as long as I can remember. I got that this year; I also got my dream job this year. Getting these two things has helped me to understand that I can now rest in the assurance that everything good will indeed come, it may not always come at the time you think it should, but it comes at the right time. Don’t lose faith.
How to love
I love love. However, while I have always loved the idea of love, I only understood love this year. I mean the act of loving, but also of being loved. In retrospect, I realized that I have operated majorly from a place of selfishness rather than selflessness. It took receiving love from other people to truly understand it. People need to be told and shown how much they mean to you. Reassurance and actions is everything in love. Invest time, effort, and resources in people you love and care about. I’m still learning, but I’m not where I used to be.
Never judge things by face value alone
I learned a lot about a diamond in the rough. Sometimes you need to look beyond what you see on the surface to truly see the value of things. Not everything that looks shiny are built to last, and not everything that has dirt on the surface is without value. You may just need to clean off the dirt, for the glitter to shine through.
Go for what you want
Sometimes I battle with imposter syndrome, not being sure if I’m truly deserving of the things I want. Thankfully things changed when I started seeing others with fewer resources than I had, get what they really wanted. The secret was simply that they were audacious enough. Take a chance at every opportunity you desire. You regret the chances you don’t take. Worst case scenario is you’ll get a no. but at least you tried. People who get what they want most times because they are dogged in their approach, giving up is not an option. Go for it!
Be committed to growth and self-development
People say that you get lucky, but someone said that the harder you work, the luckier you get. I couldn’t agree more. Smart work, hard work, and a commitment to becoming a better version of myself has made all the difference. I learned new things this year and I tried things that I was absolutely terrified of. Being intentional about personal development helped me achieve the things I wanted to achieve.
In all, 2021 was a huge learning experience for me. I am grateful for growth, life, opportunities, and people that came my way.
