Adulthood And This Distressing Back Pain

Woman with a hand on her back in pains

As a child, nobody tells you all the wahala that comes with growing up, from bills to body pains. Omo! If it’s not your neck, it’s your back. Have you noticed how if you do any small thing, you just need to rest? Lol. Look, if you are in your thirties and don’t know anything about waist or back pain, hmm, just be counting your blessings.

The truth is, many young people struggle with this – and thankfully, it is less about village people and getting old and more about lifestyle and sedentary choices. Here are a few things you can do to help you manage body pains, specifically back pains. (Please this is not a medical opinion. If you think your pain is not manageable, I definitely recommend going to see a doctor.)

Sitting Posture

A proper angled sitting posture goes a long way to reduce back aches. I found that I am often hunched over my laptop  while working. I consciously adjust myself when I remember, and the more you do this, the more you train your mind to sit properly.

Diet and Exercise

The truth is, when we eat healthy and exercise, our bodies function at their best. Schedule back and body stretches into your day. Avoid highly processed meals or meals that are sugar dense. However, if you exercise everyday and spend the whole day sitting/sitting wrong, you’ll most likely still have back problems. So take the stretches seriously. You can find stretch videos on YouTube.

Avoid Heavy Lifting

Look, don’t do more than yourself. Heavy lifting strains the muscles on your lower back, especially if you are not trained to physically lift weights.

Get A Lumbar Back Support

There’s only so much you can do to achieve a proper sitting posture if your furniture is designed to strain your back. And trust me, many furniture in the stores today are not giving priority to the needs of the human spine or fitness. So if you must, get a back support for your work desk. It is a worthy investment, especially in these days of working from home.

Remember, this is not a medical advise. If your back pain is unbearable, please see a doctor to help you identify the root cause of the back pain.
